The appeal of Freedom – and virtually free land – was powerful in the strictly regulated societies throughout Europe. Drawn by the head of the Geographical Institute of Weimar, this map contains a cornucopia of information complied from a variety of explorers with classic Teutonic precision. Germany and Eastern Europe had a major impact on Texas, and clearly marked is the Hill Country tract acquired by the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants to Texas directly from Sam Houston.
